Leasing is the most common way Western New York drivers get into a new Acura, and for good reason — lower monthly payments, factory warranty coverage through most or all of the term, and a new vehicle every two to four years.
But leasing in New York State works differently than it does almost anywhere else, and most of what you’ll read online doesn’t account for that. This page covers how Acura leasing actually works at our Williamsville store: the terms we write, how mileage is priced, what New York does with sales tax, and what your options are when the term ends.

Acura Financial Services offers several term lengths. The three we write most often:

The 48-month caveat, stated plainly. Acura’s new vehicle limited warranty runs 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. On a 48-month lease at 15,000 miles a year, you’d cross 50,000 miles well before month 48 — meaning the final stretch isn’t covered. That may be fine depending on how you drive and whether you’re considering a service contract. We’ll walk you through it rather than let you find out later.
You choose an annual mileage allowance when you sign. Lower allowance, lower payment.

Take your current odometer reading, subtract what it read a year ago, and use that number. Guessing low to shave the monthly payment is the single most common leasing mistake — buying miles up front is almost always cheaper than paying for them at turn-in.
Miles above your allowance are charged at $0.20 per mile, assessed when you return the vehicle. On a 12,000-mile lease, coming in 5,000 miles over means about $1,000 at return.
If you’re tracking ahead of your allowance partway through the term, tell us early. There are usually options — including trading into a new lease before the overage compounds.
Lease terms, mileage tiers and excess mileage charges are set by Acura Financial Services and can change. The figures above reflect current AFS programs as of September 3, 2026 — ask us to confirm what’s available when you’re ready to sign.
This is the part that surprises people, and it’s why national leasing advice doesn’t apply cleanly here.
Most states collect sales tax on your lease month by month, folded into the payment. New York does it differently — the state collects sales tax on the total of all your lease payments up front, at the time you sign, rather than spreading it across the term.
That amount can be paid at signing, or it can be capitalized into the lease and financed across your payments. Either way, it’s calculated on the whole payment stream from day one.
What this means practically: when you compare a West Herr quote against an online payment estimator or an out-of-state advertised offer, make sure you’re comparing the same thing. A payment that looks higher here is often just tax handled differently. Ask us to break it out — we’ll show you the math line by line.
Registration, title and dealer fees are separate from this and are disclosed on every quote.
Two things worth planning for at signing rather than discovering at turn-in.
Yes, and it doesn’t affect your lease. You keep the original all-season tires, run winters from roughly November through April, and put the originals back on before you return the vehicle.
One thing to check: your lease agreement sets a minimum tread depth for the tires on the vehicle at return. If your all-seasons were already close to the wear bars when you took them off, running winters won’t solve that — it just postpones it.
We don’t offer seasonal wheel and tire storage, so you’ll need somewhere at home to keep the off-season set. Plenty of independent shops in the area store them if that’s a problem.
Your lease agreement and Acura Financial Services’ lease-end inspection standards define what counts as excess wear — and those standards can change, so ask us for the current guidelines well before your return date rather than assuming.
What we can tell you from doing this in Western New York for a long time: the items that cost people money at turn-in are almost always the cheap fixes they skipped. Stone chips that sat long enough to rust through. Interior damage from untreated carpet. Rust spreading from unrepaired body damage.

Learn about financing and protection options
You have three options, and you don’t have to decide until you’re close.
The most common path. You return the current vehicle and start a new lease, often with loyalty incentives applied.
Your lease sets a purchase price at signing — the residual. If you like the car and the residual compares well against what the vehicle is actually worth in the current used market, buying it can be the better move. We’ll run that comparison with you honestly.
Return the vehicle, settle any excess mileage or excess wear charges, and you’re done.
